I believe the entire Animals album was about the corporate world. so it stands to reason this song relates to that idea.

Think of Animal Farm and I suspect the characterizations made on Animals is along those lines.

It's my favorite Pink Floyd album, with Sheep being my favorite cut from that album.

Well I assume all songs have some meaning to the writer but Those are some crazy lyrics :

and Yes Animals is my all time fav Pink Floyd CD but Dogs is better than Sheep IMO but I love all 5 songs on that CD

I did say favorite track. I wasn't opining as to which I thought was the "best" one.

I don't remember the whole explanation, and I'm FAR too lazy to look it up, but remember (maybe Dick Cavett) a talk show where they were talking about this song. They're all headlines in a newpaper, and their initial reactions.

What I DO recall:

there was a picture of a car crash (the car was twisted - looked like a cornflake) where the young man involved was sitting on the car, looking quite despondent (long-faced), waiting for an ambulance (van) to come.

the rest of the verses were similarly constructed from newspaper stories. Of course, there is a large degree of jibberish involved.
