Default Jeff Healey died......

Guitar wizard Norman Jeff Healey of Toronto died Sunday of cancer. He was 41.

Healey was considered a prodigy and earned numerous Juno and Grammy nominations in the course of his career.

He lost both his eyes to retinoblastoma before he was eight-months-old, but never let that slow him down.

What we've lost is a virtuoso musician," said Richard Flohil, Healey's publicist. "He followed his own passion, which oddly enough was not playing blues rock music, but playing classic rock jazz.

"He just cancelled a concert a few days ago in Nepean (Ont.) and we made this very kind of bland, not-to-worry statement," said Flohil. "At that point, we didn't want to say that Jeff was basically dying, although we all knew he was."

The Canadian blues and jazz great died in a Toronto hospital Sunday evening after a lifelong battle with cancer.

Flohil, who had been friends with Healey for about 20 years, said the news of his death will be very hard on his family, friends and fans. "He was lovely," said Flohil. "He was very generous, very warm-hearted, with a great sense of humour."

I emailed my husband and told him the news....he said he was such a nice fella...( I had totally forgotten that he worked with him....)so I asked him if he worked with him before..this is what he said ..

Few times.... Last time was in Brampton, when I did Shaye at that new theater. Sitting beside him on the couch in the green room, didn't realize it was him, til he spoke, 'love the acoustics in this hall....' He says. 'Yea, fantastic.....Oh! Hi Jeff.' lol

beyond the fact that its sad when someone dies before their time, I have to say that I don't really care one way or the other.

I didn't know him personally. I know he was a talented guitarist, but that's it.

Thousands of people die everyday. Why should his death be anymore important to me than any of the other thousands of people who died who I didn't know?

because he was a celebrity? or a talented musician?

I said it was sad b/c he died so young. Beyond that, I don't see where I "need" to be more emotional about it.

And I didnt ask you to be more emotional about it.

If that is how you feel about these things...then why even make a post ?

I mean seriously.

I'm a fan. Bad enough to be blind, but then to be struck dead with cancer. Ouch!

His Cover to Cover album is a great introduction to his talent.

Let me ask you -- why are you taking what I've been posting so personally?

did YOU know him personally? If so, I'm sorry for your loss.

But besides, I'm guessing you haven't read your thread over at meredith's board.

No I did not know him personally, but my husband did.

You ask why I'm taking it personally what you said,I guess I am taking it slightly personal, it's the fact that in a thread about someone dying, you come in and say you dont care one way or the other. Why even say that ? If that's how you feel...then don't say anything at all.

See I'm the kind of person that when I hear of someone dying, I feel bad, even tho I don't know them...I still say a silent prayer to them and their family. Because i'm a caring person.

And when someone such as yourself, says something so uncaring...

It's hard to hear.

I don't understand how some people can have a very uncaring attitude towards others.

oh and yes I did read the other thread at Bandit's...they may not be saying condolences to Jeff...but at least they aren't saying they don't care.
