I think that is the way it will be, especially since Girardi turned down the O's job. And I really have no problem with him being the next manager after Joe Torre, he is after all a former Yankee on championship teams himself.

I just wish the feeling for everyone invoved was that Joe Torre was getting to leave well and on his own terms.

Yep it's a given..I'm sure Girardi could have the Orioles, Reds or Mariners jobs if he wanted.

I'm not sure he'll be leaving. If anyone can afford to keep him and still pay everyone else, it's the boss himself. After the year A-Rod is having, I don't think George is going to want to let him go. He is the next player to have a shot at the homerun title too. He sells tickets and brings in alot of money for the Yankees.

A perfect Yankee off-season to me, reguardless of how the season ends would be something like this.
1) Let A-Rod go, period.
2) Re-sign Posada.
3) Do not attempt to work with Clemens being a part time player ever again.
4) Dump Jason Giambi by any means possible.
5) Sign Torii Hunter as the new CF.
6) Sign Carlos Zambrano to be the new #1 SP.
7) Let Abreu go and move Milk/Damon to RF/DH
8) Sign a solid 3B (maybe Mike Lowell?)
9) Re-sign Rivera but get the next closer ready as well.
10) Keep Joe Torre as long as he wants to stay.

1 - My big problem with letting A-Rod go (and no, I'm not a huge fan of his, the year he is having notwithstanding) is the question of what you do at third base for the next 8-10 years. Lowell is great defensively, good offensively, but on the downside. Where would they go the following year? Or the year after? At least A-Rod would stabilize that position, with good production.
2. I disagree. What free agent catcher are you going to get to replace him?
3. I agree. Clemens is likely done after this year anyway. I'd also rather see a solid starting 5 from the start, then needing help in June/July.
4. Abso-fucking-lutely. Find someone else to DH.
5. Yes. No-brainer.
6. I'd be okay with that.
7. Damon can't play right - he has no arm. Melky in right would be fine defensively, not going to get RF production, but that can be overcome in other places in the Yanks lineup. Fine move if they get Hunter, although I wouldn't just dump Abreu for nothing.
