Suggestion for moderator policies and practices
1. No single moderator can delete or edit posts or threads. At least one other moderator or administrator must agree before the deletion or edit. If a deletion is performed, both mods must publicly post their reason(s) for doing so.
2. If a second moderator or administrator isn't available, a thread can be locked or even moved to an area where it will not be available to the average user for up to 24 hours so that other mods or admins can be consulted.
3. No moderator can delete a thread in which they have been participating. Admin would be exempt from this rule, as well as a mod implementing rule #4.
4. It wouldn't hurt if a public warning in the thread in question was posted by a mod before any action was taken, but circumstances would ultimately determine if this was feasible.
I feel that implementing these policies will help eliminate some of the negative perceptions the forum members have about moderator and administrator performance.
